How To Trap Rat or Mouse in Home - Coral Springs*trapping for rat and mouse problems is much more effective than
poisoning for the rodents

Trapping Equipment There are three rat trap types: cage traps, glue board traps, and lethal snap traps. Of these three types of rat traps, snap traps are best. All three of these types of traps are sized differently for rats and mice. In Coral Springs, FL, nearly all rodent problem are roof rat or citrus rat problems and most people with animal problems should use rat size traps to catch the rodents. Mouse-size traps will NOT catch adult rats. They may catch baby rat pups. But rat-size traps will catch mice, so if you use these larger size, you will cover both rats and mice. In general, the best way to trap for rats involves using 12-20 large snap traps. Occasionally glue traps are useful if small rats are spotted inside the home, or in situations where snap traps would endanger children or pets. Rat Bait Bait is less important than most people think. The bait matters, but not as much as putting down many more traps than you would think and sealing the home off completely from rat entry. Many different baits can be used for rats for mice. In my experience, the best bait is peanut butter and dry cat food. In most cases, I lay traps in groups of 4 - with 4 traps baited with peanut butter on the yellwo trigger tab surrounding a plate of cat food. Try using dog food or dry cat food as bait! Where To Set The Traps Most rat problems are primarily located in the attic. In the attic, rats leave runway tracks and droppings as trails through the insulation. The traps should be set where activity is heaviest in the attic based on where the noises in the attic at night are coming from and where the most droppings are. The traps need to go up in the attic as close as possible to where the animal noise is heard. If rats are seen inside the kitchen or bathroom, traps can be set where they were seen. However, snap traps inside the home are dangerous for pets and children. In most cases all the trapping can be done in attic to trap the Coral Springs rats.. Any rat or mouse seen inside the home will most likely run back up into the attic where the attic traps will catch it. Use 12-20 rat traps Setting a lot of traps is very useful. Trap are inexpensive and will increase your odds of success. Rats and mice can be difficult to catch with only a handful of traps especially if they are only set near the hatch. Sometimes it is not easy to tell the best locations to set the traps, and using a lot of traps helps you cover all possibilities. |

A repeating rat trap has a clear lid for easy viewing and a wind-up mechanism
which kills the mice into an escape proof container. An important tool in
rat control for many years, the wind-up rodent traps can
hold many mice with one set. The Coral Springs mice can be released safely in
the wild or disposed of by drowning in water before emptying the trap.
Over-winding the rat trap can damage trap and might
kill the first mouse to enter trap. |
