How To Eliminate Rat, Mouse, Rodent Pest Problems
The best pest control for rats is to reduce the number around the home and on the roof, sealing all opening and
future potential entry points of the building, trap for any
rats sealed inside when the repairs are done, and lastly removing the rodent marking scent from the attic
through attic restoration services.
1). Landscaping:
Pick up citrus fruits left lying on the ground, cut way trees resting against the side of the
Fort Lauderdale house, and reduce overgrown bushes around the house. The first step of getting
rid of a rat problem is to reduce the number surrounding the property. There will always be rats outside
in Fort Lauderdale. But the condition of the yard determines whether only
occasional rats will pass by or whether rats will always be crawling around the house and roof
looking to get inside the attic.
When a high number of rats are consistently around a house, some will
eventually find their way inside.
The most important factor of landscaping is to make sure all tree branches are 3 feet away from the roof.
This will make rats have to leap for the rooftop. Some will do this,
but most rats will not jump that far.
2). Inspect the building for openings, seal
all holes, reinforce weak points.
All homes in Fort Lauderdale have potential openings for rats to get in. The most common entry points are along the eave, particularly where the soffit corners into the roof
- this is a common weak point in Florida construction.
When rats have entered a building, they still need to go outside to get food and water.
Our pest control service takes advantage of knowing where the rats want to
go.
The most important step in solving a rat or mouse problem is
securing the building:
Entry points should be sealed with steel flashing. Foaming holes with Great
Stuff will not rat proof the entry point, as they can easily chew through it.
But at least foaming the entry points and having them chewed open will at tell
you for certain how the rats are getting inside the home.
3). Trap for the rodents sealed inside
after repairs are done.
You need the right kind of rat trap (there are many poor choices), a large
quantity of these traps, and the right location to set the trap.
Click here to see Wildlife Patrol's guide to trapping rats.
The key to catching rats is to stop them from being able go outside to get food. The only food for them should be the bait on the traps.
Rats can avoid being caught if the pest control service doesn't stop their
ability to feed safely.
Trapping by itself does not control a rat problem. The building must be secured. Rat re-entry will occur
sooner or later if the entry points are not identified and taken care of.
4). Remove the rodent scent
After the building has been sealed and all the rodents removed, the
droppings and scent of the animals remains inside the attic. For health, odor,
and scent reasons, Wildlife Patrol recommends attic decontamination services for
most homes that have had a significant rat problem.
All of our pest control is performed in a expert manner. We never intend
to harm any wildlife, but only to safely and permanently remove it from your
home attic. Once pest rats are trapped, we quickly arrive to remove the dead
animals before the customer suffers any dead rat smell. We service most of
South Florida, but do most of our pest control in Fort Lauderdale and
surrounding towns, such as Weston, Pasadena, Miramar, Pembroke Pines, Miami,
Coral Springs, Boca Raton, and more.
